It does not take long before babies use their cot as sports equipment. They pull themselves up on the bars and jump up and down on the mattress. The bed therefore needs to be quite resistant. The parenting magazine "Leben & Erziehen" advises to consider the following criteria when buying a cot:
The baseframe can be fitted at different heights. Minimum distance to the top edge of the bed when adjusted in the highest position should be 30 cm, in the lowest position it should be 60 cm; this ensures that your baby cannot fall out or climb out. The height of the base frame depends on the age of the child. You only need to be more careful, when your child starts being mobile.
- The bars need to be a minimum of 4.5 cm and a maximum of 7.5 cm apart.
- 3 or 4 bars can be removed to create an opening for your child once it becomes mobile. This stops it from trying to climb over the bars.
- There should be just a base frame at the bottom, no bottom board.
- There should be no protruding screws, sharp corners and edges where children could pinch or bruise themselves.
- At least two of the castors on mobile cots can be locked.
- The GS sign guarantees a sturdy design and good craftsmanship.
